Life is littered with an immeasurable amount of moments. Out of which we forget about 90%. Let me clarify, that’s not from a scientific study, I’m just really forgetful and I suppose I’m automatically assuming the same for everyone else.
Out of all these moments, there are always a few that stand out. Occasionally, some of those we wish we could forget; Moments that extend to haunt future moments, to taint them and consume our minds. It’s all too easy to allow a few rotten seconds to define how we feel for the rest of the day. To use the negativity we catch from that first moment to allow us to point out more negativity and let it build.
However, those aren’t the only moments that stand out.
I’ve always believed strongly in acknowledging the bad but shining a spotlight on the good. And while it’s true that bad things happen, and we often have every right to be grumpy or upset, as I’ve opened my eyes to try and notice more of the good, I’ve come to realize just how many nice events happen around us.
It first occurred to me on the night that I spoke of on my last blog post, when me and my parents ate Nutella straight from the jar and I was so happy.
Like I said, some moments are just good.
The second I sat down to draw that moment, I starting noticing more good moments. The example being the picture above. I was at the nail salon with my mom when we saw a woman, a man, and their three daughters of varying ages step inside together. The dad just looked like he’d swallowed his pride to spend some time with his girls and get a pedicure, which was what initially caught my intention, because it was cute and hilarious.
Then I noticed that the entire time, the mom and dad held hands. They’d talk, joke, or even be focused on separate things, but they didn’t let go of each other’s hand for a second, and it struck me as such an adorable little thing that possibly no one else even noticed, that I had to sit down and draw it.
As I mentioned, my memory is terrible, which is why I like to preserve the good moments, spend time remembering them and trying to the best of my limited ability to copy them down so others can enjoy them too. It’s all about memories that make you smile.
Seeing as this is neither the first nor last moment that I’ve drawn, and because I find it to be so much fun and such a positive thing to do, I’ve decided to start a series called Certain Moments. Whenever I witness or personally experience a certain moment that strikes me as special, be it a random act of kindness or a cute gesture that would have gone unnoticed, I’ll sit down and draw it, and then share it with all of you, along with a little context. It’s my way of shining a spotlight on the good, because there is so much more than we realize.
So stay tuned for more drawings like these! And I encourage you to go out and find a few certain moments of your own! Please let me know if you do!
Above all, have a wonderful day!
